BY ANNETTE JOHNSON originally published in HERS MAGAZINE Even after more than 35 years of improving people’s skin, licensed medical esthetician Anna Gorenshteyn feels there are basic tenets to having great skin.

In fact, she has always believed that there are many contributing factors other than clothes and makeup in order to look good.

“It is all a combination of a healthy lifestyle, including exercising, eating healthy, and most importantly, taking care of your skin,”

says Gorenshteyn.

“All of this can be beneficial and lead to not only looking good, but feeling good as well.”

Working from her wellness center in Dunwoody, Georgia, she added,

“I chose skincare because our skin reflects all of our health issues – physical and mental. I love being able to help people feel comfortable in their own skin.”

The skin is largest organ of the human body and accounts for 15% of our body weight. The body has about 3 million skin cells and we have about 2 square meters of surface area. She advises that the skin must actually be ready in order for products to be effective.

She explains,

“Our skin receives 100% benefit from the use of products when it is free of dry, dead skin cells. Otherwise, the product is being wasted. The solution for this would be working directly with the skin surface by receiving professional treatments such as a microdermabrasion and/or acid peels, and using scrub at home as maintenance between those treatments.”

Her integrated practice at Dunwoody Wellness includes doctors who specialize in aesthetics/medical skincare, chiropractic, physical therapy, medical massage therapy, naturopathy and diet. She says she uses the latest techniques and technologies.

“Our menu changes often to reflect the latest practices and tools coming out of France and Israel, the capitals of aesthetics, medical, and technology capitals of the world.”

The center offers LED rejuvenation, micro-needling, IPL (intense pulsed light), RF (radio frequency), PRP(plasma) treatments for skin and hair growth and other therapies. While her staff and techniques are in place to aid or improve the skin and body, ultimately, she says,

“Skincare is a reflection of one’s genetics and lifestyle.”

Rather than consumers simply purchasing over-the-counter product(s) based on their own notions, Gorenshteyn firmly believes people should receive professional advice “before deciding on what to purchase.”

Gorenshteyn says she only uses medical grade products or those formulated for specific skin and situations.

“Our ultimate goal is to use techniques, products and technologies that are customized for each client and their goals and needs.”

Her first meeting with a client includes a full evaluation, including an assessment of the person’s diet, lifestyle, overall health, and aesthetic goals. She says getting educated by a professional is always the first, best step in adopting healthier lifestyle choices to achieve and maintain healthy, glowing skin with good skin habits. Because each person has unique needs, she says she creates a customized regimen.

“Once a client is educated, they can do simple things at home to avoid short-term and long-term skin damage.”

Of all the factors, she feels as though a person’s diet plays a major or “huge” role in skin health.

“Often, we can tell which body systems are working overtime or lacking in function by looking closely at a person’s skin. Our multi-talented team of professionals helps to address these issues, and the results can be seen on a person’s skin. Also, a healthier person radiates positive and warm energy. That’s ultimately our goal as health and skincare professionals.”
